- Wanna go Junkyarding? It looks like there's a bunch of junkyards on Columbia in Cambridge-- I should find out if any of them is the sort where you wander through picking up things and weigh what you want to get on the way out. And those so inclined should make an outing of it. — EbEth
Sure, I've not done the 'research' yet on local junkyards, but use enough metal in various forms to be very intersted in an expedition if somone figures out where to go. Can provide transportation for finds that will fit in smallish car. — Chris <stratton@netway.com>

- Don't Tell Ruth, she needs to save up to buy the pool table. I was looking for websites about wild boars (I still am, for that matter. Let me know if you've bookmarked any good ones lately), when I came across this fellow:

- Much of the Berlin Bear site at http://www.berlinbear.com/index.html is cloying and expensive, as one might expect from a stuffed-animal emporium. http://www.berlinbear.com/wildanimalmenu.html, however, is a huge collection of stuffed wild animals, organized by species. A tapir! Three different meerkats! An exquisitely dignified warthog. Great browsing.
Sadly, no stuffed naked mole rats. — Scott

- Wicked Cool Stamps Gene Wolfe once described stamps as "tiny squares of paper with pictures of things politicians consider beautiful," but this time I find the politicians and myself in extrodinary accord. Apparently, these came out last year, but this is the first I've seen of them. The images are really bright, crisp, and big--the jpeg doesn't really do them justice. I may need to get a second sheet so I don't get all mopey every time I have to mail a letter.
Sebbo- they've been around at least since last November. I used them on all my Megyear cards last January, and they're great for sending to gardening catalogs and utility companies. meg

- These are also pretty cool...

- I was gonna also include a picture of the Ayn Rand memorial stamp, but my better self won out at the last minute. All images from http://www.stampsonline.com/, but I got my insect stamps at the Davis Square PO.

- BICYCLE GUN RACK auction [expires once in a while] Another Thing I Saw On eBay and had to tell you about. http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewListedItems&userid=archersafield This is their list of auctions-- look for "Pack Rack Bow/Gun Holder for ATV or Bike" for the current one. --EbEth
PS Yes, I bought one. --EbEth
Er...why? --Sebbo
For carrying large trashpicked items home. --EbEth

- BOOT ZIPPERS auction [over] Another Thing I Saw On eBay and had to tell you about: another anthill in my quest for alternatives to eyelet lacing on boots (e.g. http://www.hacksaw.org/~ebeth/wingnuts/wingnuts0.JPG), I've found these: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=279081678. I assume they hook into the eyelets somehow. Anyway, I figured you'd want to know. --EbEth
PS Yes, I bought them. How embarrassing. --EbEth
More embarassing than the gunrack? --Sebbo
Yep. They're for 11-eyelet boots and Hacksaw's are 9. Also, the eyelets are too small to take 1/4" wingnuts. Glad you asked?
In any case, imagine bolting them upside down into the top few holes of a pair of combat boots. They still unzip far enough (up, now) that you can get them off. Then bolt on some nylon web belt straps across the calf around the back (the top one or two will have to be loosenable). This is heading towards a sensible-shoe(!) take on this pair:
...which I continue to maintain has some redeeming qualities. --EbEth

Poop, the tinky winky doesn't recognize "https" enough to make it a link! Hey, now it does. Thanks, Rich!
