An African safari tour is still the trip of a lifetime for many. This exciting and unique vacation has a history dating back almost 200 years. Adventurers, explorers and missionaries flocked to Africa during the 19th century, and their reports of the wonderful wildlife inspired those back home who could afford it, to take the trip to Africa. The earliest safaris placed an emphasis on hunting, and the rich customers often traveled with all sorts of luxuries, and often spending several months in the ‘Dark Continent.’ The early part of the 20th century saw a change in attitudes, as conservation became more important than hunting, and the widespread use of vehicles on safaris made them more accessible to more people. The 1970s saw the concept of the luxury safari, and the safari trip continues to evolve, with several African countries relying heavily on safari income.
