Certified Medical Assistant Duties
Certified medical assistants work in physicians’ offices, where they perform a wide range of duties. Depending on the work setting, a certified medical assistant might greet patients, verify insurance, schedule appointments, and call patients to remind them of appointments or to provide an update regarding care. Some CMAs have clinical responsibilities such as taking medical histories, taking vital signs, drawing blood, and assisting physicians with examinations and other procedures.
Becoming Certified
To become certified, the individual who completes a medical assisting educational program must take the certification exam in their state. After passing the exam, the graduate can look forward to a job in a physician’s office or other health care facility.
