If diving with whale sharks is on your list of ‘must do’ experiences, there are several great places to do that. The waters off Tanzania attract whale sharks year round, and Honduras is also a year round diving destination. The island of Holbox, off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is best to visit in July and August, while March to June is the best time to experience the creatures off the coast of Australia. If you have never done this before, different destinations have different guidelines; always know what to expect beforehand. In general, you may only spend a few minutes with the sharks, and much of the excursion may be spent looking for the creatures. However, you don’t necessarily need to be an expert diver, and of course all dives are under the eye of an expert and someone who knows the local sea life scene.
