Photography licensing refers to a contract in which a photographer grants certain rights to a person or company that wants to use their images for a specified period of time and under any restrictions specified in the contract.
A photographer automatically owns the rights to their images and can decide how they are used by third parties be creating a contract that sets out the terms of that use – this is called a license. The license enables the third party to use the photographer’s images only as set out within the scope of the agreement.
Licensing images is one way that a photographer can earn money from their works and means that they have sold someone permission to use their work in a certain way. The more ways that a someone wants to use the images, the more it will cost them.
