Network security is becoming more and more important as the world relies increasingly on networked computer systems for every aspect of our lives. The role of a network security specialist is likely to remain in demand for the foreseeable future. Here are some of the things you’ll need on your resume if you want to pursue this career:

• You will need to have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, with a Master’s degree preferred.

• Experience working with networked computer systems: the more the better. Many security specialists start our as network engineers, network technicians or network administrators.

• Relevant additional industry certificates or qualifications in network security.

• Be able to demonstrate ongoing learning in the area. The security threat space is constantly changing as malicious actors adapt their techniques so you’ll want to show that you are on the cutting edge of security techniques.
