It is earned by performing various tasks within the game such as fishing, woodcutting and mining, for example.
These tasks, however, are time-consuming and repetitive and many players look for faster ways to get gold within the game. One method is to buy gold from other players using real world currency or a virtual currency such as bitcoin.
Players selling gold are often using macros (also called ‘bots’) that perform the tasks required to get gold automatically. It should be noted, however, that both the use of macros and selling virtual gold for actual currency is explicitly forbidden in the rules of the game.
