Transcribing videos refers to the process of creating a text version of what is being said in a video. This can be a time consuming process when done manually (often 5 to 6 times longer than the video) but there are services that provide automatic transcription of videos some of which are listed below.

• YouTube – provides a free automatic transcription tool that converts the audio in the video to text – there may be a lot of errors, however, depending on how clear the audio is.

• Google Docs – offers a feature that allows you to use their Docs product as free transcription software. Use the video audio file to convert it.

• Automatic Speech Recognition Software – (otherwise known as ASR) refers to a suite of software products that convert human speech to text; some are free while others charge for the service.
