One of the most critical elements in drumming is the drum lifter and dumper. Along with a set of drums, this person will create the foundation for what a musician will be playing on the instrument. These two individuals will typically sit opposite each other at a drum shop and play the different sizes of drums available to them. When a musician purchases a drum set, they have likely purchased a drum lifter as well as a drum dumper.

Not every drummer will need both of these items at once. Often a bass drum, a snare drum, and a ride cymbal will be more than enough for the musician. However, most people who begin to learn how to play drums find that they are quickly growing their collection of musical instruments. As the number of musical styles and bass drum styles increases, the need for a drum lifter and a drum dumper will also grow. Drummers will often begin to have many different musical tools, rather than just one.
