A ketogenic diet plan recommends that you drastically reduce your of carbohydrate intake while increasing the intake of fats. In normal diets, carbohydrates are burned first for energy, and then then the protein, followed by the fats.
The reduced intake of carbs results in the body going into a state of metabolism called ketosis; and hence the name for this diet. In this state, the body becomes very efficient in burning fat.The main source of energy in the body comes from glucose (sugar), and when carbs are reduced the supply of glucose can reduce. Protein can also be converted into energy and this can slow the transition to ketosis. Its consumption also needs to be restricted in a ketogenic diet.
A standard keto weight loss plan requires you to limit carbs to 10%, proteins to 20% and make up the rest in fat.
