The Internet of Things (IoT) represents the next step in the digital revolution by encompassing everyday physical objects into the internet. Some examples of IoT technology that will be made possible include:

• Sensors – the sensors in IoT-enabled devices will allow them to report a range of data depending on the type of object; they could report temperature, pressure, vibration, motion and so on.

• Tracking and Monitoring – by using existing GPS systems, IoT objects embedded in vehicles could provide periodic information about their location which could be used to provide more efficient deliveries and to avoid traffic jams, as just one example among many other potential uses.

• Smart Farming – farmers can use IoT technology to improve their practices such as deciding the best time to harvest and delivering crops only the amounts of fertilizers and pesticides that are required.
