One appealing thing about historical fiction is that you can read novels set in just about any time period that interests you. Some historical periods are more popular than others; if you’re a fan of Victorian England, you can find dozens of novels that capture the foggy and gas lit streets, including of course the Sherlock Holmes books. Other books set in the late 19th century take place in other cities, notably Paris or New York. World War II features prominently in historical novels, and you can read stories set during the London blitz, or that focus on the horrors of the concentration camps. If you enjoy mysteries, there are mysteries set during the roaring 1920s, and those set in Regency England. Further back, it’s easy to find mysteries set during Medieval times and novels set in ancient Rome or Greece, or in prehistoric times.
