Any first time trip to Paris should include a visit to the world famous Louvre museum. It’s one of the largest and most visited museums in the world, attracting almost 10 million people each year, and is home to over 380,000 paintings, sculptures and other works of art. The entire collection was recently made available online, although there’s really no substitute for seeing the collection in person. Many visitors make straight for the museum’s most famous work, the Mona Lisa, although it would be a shame to miss the extensive Medieval, Renaissance, Egyptian and Roman collections. Even the building itself is worth seeing, especially the contrast between the centuries old palace building and the 20th century glass pyramid. The Louvre gets extremely crowded and it pays to buy your tickets ahead of time, and it’s also important to understand it can’t all be seen in one visit!
