A software Defined Wide Area Network (SD WAN) is a form of network virtualization in which a wide area network is abstracted from its physical network components into a software definition that enables easier implementation and management of the network.

Managed SD WAN refers to the fact that a service provider offers these services to an organization for a fee so that they do not need to implement the technology themselves, which can initially be complex and time-consuming, or manage it afterwards.

SD WAN provides a solution to the problem of integrating emerging network technologies such as cloud computing, the Internet of Things, mobile computing and others. By providing a single point of view for the network and streamlining underlying communications protocols, managed SD WAN provides a better experience for organizations using highly distributed networks at a fraction of the cost of implementing it themselves.
