A remedial massage therapist is someone that uses massage to treat conditions associated with muscles, ligaments and tendons of a person’s body. It is a key part of sports medicine but can also be used to treat people suffering from the pain associated with injuries in various parts of the body.

The therapeutic techniques used in this type of massage are most often used to treat muscles that are tense, knotted, stiff or are damaged. The therapist first conducts a systematic assessment of various parts of the body to identify where treatment needs to be applied and then uses massage techniques to revitalize and optimize muscle functions. Massage involves the manipulation of various soft tissues in the body; a therapist will palpate parts of a patient’s body to identify physical and bio-mechanical issues and then seek to address them through physical manipulation.
