What Is Disability Management?

0

Disability management refers to the process of reducing the impact of a person’s disability on other people and on their employers. The term is commonly applied when referring to disabled people in the workplace and attempts to mitigate any discrimination they face as well as helping them manage their condition as part of human resources management.

It typically refers to how employers manage disability in the workplace in an overall sense in that it addresses how to prevent disability from occurring, how employees are integrated back into the work environment when they suffer a disabling event, how to accommodate employees that have been disabled and assessing the cost-effectiveness of management services that address these needs. Certified disability specialists are often engaged to help employers deal with the issues that arise from work-related disability with a major focus being on preventing discrimination against disabled people in a workplace.
