Relationship counselling is a process in which people in a relationship work their way through interpersonal difficulties they are having in a supportive and non-judgmental environment with a counsellor that guides their efforts. A counsellor will help a couple to identify any issues or problems that are affecting their relationship through a series of sessions in which the couple identifies the issues they have in their partnership.
Couples can undertake sessions with a counsellor either together or singly to discuss their issues in a guided process with a counsellor. Some couples resolve their difficulties within one or two sessions while others may require multiple sessions to work through their issues. While some couples only resort to counselling when they have a serious breakdown, couples therapy can also be a useful way to deepen and strengthen a relationship that is not at risk and has many positive benefits.
