Sports physio (or physiotherapy) involves the prevention and treatment of injuries that occur from playing sport or exercising. A physiotherapist provides scientifically-based advice about how to participate in sport and exercise activities safely. They can also help athletes of all ages and abilities to enhance their performance.
Sports and exercise physiotherapists are competent in promoting safe participation in physical activities and also perform rehabilitation and training interventions to help prevent injury, restore optimal performance and enhance an athlete’s or other person’s overall performance. They work in a wide variety of settings including in clinical or private practice. They are often involved in social and club level sporting events as well as treating professional athletes and often attend training sessions. Physiotherapists can also coordinate physiotherapy services, help in injury prevention, provide rehabilitation after injury and monitor a person’s recovery from an injury.
