Designing eLearning courses can be a daunting prospect but it will be made much easier if you can connect with your audience by using design to highlight the information you are presenting. Design elements must not compete with the information you are imparting but rather emphasize important points and provide a flow for the topic.
You can do this by creating a visual hierarchy that emphasizes how your audience should navigate the text. For example, you might highlight and objective at the start of the text and a recap at the end. Use large, simple eye-catching fonts to make clear headings, subheadings and important pieces of information in the text. Make sections of information clear by using a box or grey background color to highlight them. Use plenty of white space and include images and graphics to further break up the text.
