The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) works to ensure that female veterans receive the same benefits as their male counterparts. If you are a veteran, or you know one, you can take an active role in making sure she receives the care she has earned.
What is available
A range of programmes provides healthcare and support to female veterans and, in some cases, their spouses. Services can include primary care, women’s health services, mental health support, and help with housing, education and employment.
How to apply
The Veterans Benefits Administration oversees these programmes. If you believe you qualify, complete an application for the programme that fits your needs and submit it. There is no fee to apply, and you will be notified once a decision has been made.
Talk to an advisor
The easiest way to find out what you qualify for is to speak with a trained advisor at the department. An advisor can explain the programmes open to female veterans, check your eligibility and help you complete your applications.
Encourage others
Many veterans never claim the benefits they are entitled to. Sharing information with friends and family who served can help them get the care they deserve.
